The stained glass window feel is a statement of the importance for a renewed look at our nation’s values and a contemporary take on the style of William Morris. The hedgerows’ branches weave together various aspects of British woodland and hedgerow with our life’s journey. The central panel features a path winding towards a hill’s summit, a metaphor for the positive role of the countryside in helping us climb out of entanglement with a sense of liberation. A design to illustrate the wide variety of natural species in a British hedgerow. The Small tortoise shell butterfly is central to the work surrounded by a ring of hedgerow fruit and flowers and a pattern of common leaves. Hedgerow species (clockwise from the top). This work started from a drawing of Silver Birch Trees on top of Froggatt Edge. The outline is filled with a Peak District inspired pattern, a full coloured abstraction intended to describe the colour of all of life experiences. The ring of trees are representative of eternal time and a metaphor for the world, growth and learning. The coloured forest surrounds the eternal celtic knot of life, which in turn frames the three rings of key life aspects and balanced wellbeing. -
